1. Introductory Classes ( max. 4* students)
These classes are all planned for maximum fun. The goal is to ignite the sparkle of creativity within you, learn the handy skill of glass cutting along with some history of glass techniques, share Dar’s long-time passion for glass and tarot and take home something special.
1.1 Mosaics – Tuesdays, 9-11 AM, five or six sessions, October 15, 22 ,29, November 5, 12, 19. $250.00
All materials included for a 10-12” mosaic wall mural or stepping stone. Students provide glass cutter & pliers.
1.2 Fused Glass – Tuesdays, 12-2 PM, three or four sessions, October 15, 22, 29, November 5. $250.00
All materials included for 1- 4” garden stake and 1- 4” suncatcher + 2 firings. Students provide their own glass cutter & grozing pliers.
1.3 Stained Glass – Tuesdays, 2:30-4:30pm, five or six sessions. October 15, 22, 29, November 5, 12, 19. Students provide glass cutter & pliers. $280.00
All materials included for a 10-12” square or round lead or copper foil window. Students provide their own glass cutter & grozing pliers.
1.4 Tarot – Wednesdays, 5-7 PM, $120.00.
This course introduces the Rider-Waite tarot deck, the cards and their symbolism, and the art of reading tarot. The Rider-Waite deck is used in the course and students are encouraged to have their own deck but it is not mandatory. If you prefer a different tarot deck, please bring it along.
2. Intermediate Classes (max. 4 students*)
These classes are for those who have practised the basics of glass cutting, design and assembly and now would like to do something more elaborate. Projects will be determined on an individual basis. Some materials will be provided, depending on project or projects. Re: Tarot – this class is for people who have a basic understanding of the individual cards and will focus more on readings.
2.1 Mosaics – Wednesdays, 9-11 AM, five or six sessions. $280.00
Suggestions for projects: 16” hexagon stepping stone, mirror, chair, small mural.
2.2 Fused Glass – Wednesdays, 12-2 PM, five or six sessions – 12” ‘painting’ with glass. $280.00
Focus on creating a scene using frit and study of different fusing techniques.
2.3 Stained Glass – Wednesdays, October 16, 23, 30, tba, November 6, 13, 20. $300.00
Make a stained glass window, approximately 4 sq feet using traditional lead technique.
2.4 Tarot* (max. 6) – Wednesdays, 7-9pm, Oct. 16, 23, 30, Nov. 6, 13, 20. $120.00
3. Advanced Glass Classes – January 2020 (max. 4 students- time to be arranged)
These classes are designed for students who have had experience with a number of glass projects and would like to do something larger (over 4 sq. ft.), incorporating architectural components – with either fused, mosaic or stained glass, or a combination of different glass techniques. Supervision and support and some wine will be provided. 🙂
Tarot – This class is for students who have experience with their own deck, a good understanding of reading the cards, and would like to increase their knowledge of tarot with a more in-depth focus on astrology. An astrology tarot wheel designed by Dar Mace and Dar Yuile will be used.
Individual glass classes, tarot classes & individual tarot readings are available all year round, by appointment, $40/hr.
INSTRUCTOR: Dar Mace has been a studio glass artist, student, teacher, and reader of the tarot for over 30 years. Born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, she has lived on Gabriola Island since 1980. Dar’s glass work is internationally known (most recently Chile, South America).
