Gabriola has always had an exceptional ability to attract individuals who see and feel the sacredness of the natural world and a passion to communicate our interconnectedness. Marnie Recker, Danielle Noel and Hayden Harvey are three artists who are showing their art at my Gabriola Studio for the next two days, December 10 & 11th, 11-4pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for all of Gabriola to see three rising stars with the actual physical work they have created through their skillful hands and expansive, heartfelt imaginations. Original art experienced at the moment with the artist present is something we can take for granted living with so many talented people here. I would like to encourage everyone to put their gum boots on and pay these artists an honorable visit you will not regret. They are showing us a clear vision of the future we really need to see today. They are inspiring!

The Cemetery Chapel of Tapolca. This mosaic portal represents an effort of truth & reconciliation for Hungarian and Jewish culture and history, both locally and globally, by the friends, family and community of Tapolca, Hungary. Initiated by Ivan Lessner in 2019, and designed and created by the glass artist, Darlene Mace, on Gabriola Island, Canada, this mosaic was installed in June, 2022. Our new eagle cam is live and the first sighting of the eagles back at their nest was this morning! We are thrilled beyond belief to have this up and running…as an educational tool it is gold! And for those that are interested in the beautiful lives of the Eagle, you will be able to watch them fortify the nest, lay their eggs, watch the eggs hatch and how the adult eagles take care of their young. Feeding them, teaching them and then letting them fly away. It’s a beautiful and magnificent process. Sometimes a little ugly too. 😉

Tapolca Mosaic
Pillar- bottom right section- Ode to an origin myth of Hungarian embroidery. In the 16th century, as the story is told, a young Hungarian man was held ransom by a conquering Turkish King. Whoever could produce an apron full of roses in the middle of winter could procure his freedom. His resourceful lover created an elaborate apron of beautiful embroidered roses, he gained his freedom, and Hungarian embroidery was launched! Many embroidered aprons are still bestowed in traditional Hungarian weddings.
A tribute to feminine creativity and resourcefulness.
